A bone densitometry is an examination that helps your doctor detect osteoporosis / osteopenia, estimate its severity in order to start the appropriate treatment, if necessary, and check whether an ongoing treatment for osteoporosis is sufficiently effective.

Botdensitometer MCH WO

Osteoporosis (decalcification of the bone) is associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, mainly indentations of the vertebral bodies of the back, and fractures of the hips. To prevent these indentations and fractures, it is important to detect and treat osteoporosis early.

Bone densitometry is a simple examination that uses a very low dose of X-rays to measure the amount of calcium (BMD, "bone mineral density") in the bone. Thanks to "new generation" equipment available to MCH, the examination takes a maximum of 10 minutes and the radiation dose is minimal (much lower than an average X-ray examination).

Retrieving the images

Images are shared online via PacsOnWeb, which is a system that allows you to view radiological images online.

To view the images, you can log in in two ways:

  • With examination reference number and date of birth.
  • With a username, password and examination reference number (for healthcare providers only).

The report of the examination is not available to you as a patient, but it is available to your requesting doctor. The great advantage of this system is that the images are available anywhere in case of referral to a hospital or another doctor or specialist.
